ELM Group Champions Energy Savings Week 2026
This week, the Energy Saving Trust has once again partnered with Citizens Advice to share some everyday energy wins that can help households stay warm while keeping costs down - something many of us will value as we navigate the ongoing rise in living expenses.
At ELM Group, we’re proud to support this national initiative and share guidance that can help our independent living communities stay comfortable and energy‑efficient this winter.
Why not try a few of these useful tips from the Energy Saving Trust’s latest checklist?

Cold spots caused by trapped air can reduce how effectively your radiators heat your home. Bleeding them is a quick way to improve performance and keep rooms warmer more efficiently.

Setting TRVs to the right level helps avoid overheating rooms unnecessarily. On a scale of 0–5, levels 2–3 are typically fine for lower‑use rooms, and around 4 is suitable for living spaces you want to keep warm.
🔥 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞
Reducing the flow temperature on your boiler can help cut your heating bill—some claims suggest by up to 9%. For combi boilers, 60°C in cold weather is recommended; for systems with hot water cylinders, aim for 65°C to maintain safe conditions.
💧Use your washing machine’s ‘eco’ cycle for dirty laundry
This takes longer but uses less energy – these are sometimes called ‘Eco 40-60’ or ‘Eco cotton’.
🍳Use the appliance that fits the meal you’re making
Air fryers, microwaves or slow cookers usually use less energy than ovens and hobs when cooking a single meal.
These everyday adjustments may be small on their own but can add up to meaningful savings over the winter months.
