ELM Group celebrates #LearningatWorkWeek

This week, we’re celebrating #LearningatWorkWeek highlighting how continual learning at work benefits us all. The 2025 theme is ‘Get Connected', exploring the social aspect of lifelong learning at work with three aspects to consider:

  • how we connect people to learning experiences through building motivation and addressing barriers to engagement

  • the importance of our work communities for supporting, inspiring and driving engagement with lifelong learning

  • how through connecting colleagues through learning across the organisation, we can build understanding, skills and knowledge as well as create collaborative cultures and relationships that further support a lifelong learning culture.

We saw this as a great opportunity to share some of our own staff training and development initiatives which make ELM Group stand out as a supportive employer:

We 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲-𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀-𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵; 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻.

Our CEO Lorraine Collis introduced a progressive training programme ‘The ELM Way’, which has resulted in a business wide improvement in our working environment and employee/customer satisfaction, enabling us to present a ‘unified’ understanding of what being an ELM employee means; creating an environment where people work proudly as ‘one team’ to deliver an outstanding service.

The ELM Way

We have a strong focus on continued development to ensure our team succeed in their roles; our training programme ensures each employee is assigned a mentoring buddy, and we arrange site-visits in employee's first weeks to allow them to shadow experienced managers, as well as a six-week training review to ensure they feel supported in their role. We also provide training on Professional Boundaries, Honest Conversations, and Emergency First Aid at work training through external providers.

Our internal Estate Manager Development Programme has had over 100 levels 1-3 completed, with several managers undertaking Level 4, the company funded TPI (The Property Institute) Associate Exam in Leasehold Management.

Finally, our recently introduced ‘Developing Area Manager’ role provides career progression for our Estate Managers - a pathway which a number of our team have progressed through in the last few years.

Learning at work helps us to expand on our skills and knowledge and here at ELM we continually review our training and development initiatives to ensure we provide support and allow our team to thrive in their roles.

We’re delighted to see that our focus on development and support is reflected in our employee survey results. For the past 4 years over 87% of employees shared that they enjoyed coming to work, and in 2024 92% of our team agreed that they felt relationships between colleagues within their teams were positive.
