Retirement living: The demand for ‘lock up and leave’ apartments
10 May 2017
The dream of travelling in retirement - whether that means relaxing on a beach or hiking in Peru – is something we all aspire to. In fact, according to Experian, the over 65s are spending £1.3 billion more on travel per year than they did a decade ago. But the fantasy of escaping the UK to enjoy holidays abroad isn’t always as carefree as you might think.
Whilst travelling, thoughts can easily turn to your home and the potential problems that could occur–“Is the alarm activated”, “Will the plants survive”, “Did I remember to close all the windows”. Disasters rarely happen, but the desire for a more adventurous retirement has paved the way for the new trend in retirement living – lock up and leave apartments.
A home that gives you the freedom to travel without the added hassle
Larger family homes and gardens requiring on-going care often prevent retires from enjoying extended breaks. There can also be insurance implications related to leaving a home unattended for months at a time.
As a result, ‘rightsizers’ are now looking for retirement living that not only provides the right location, but also offers security, safe parking and regular maintenance.
The idea of having an Estate Manager on hand really appeals to ELM leaseholders. They can enjoy flexible retirement living with the peace of mind that their property is secure.
